Day 314: Cobb Salad and Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pud
There are no three sweeter words in the english language than the following: In. Room. Dining. Together of course; on their own they don’t carry quite the same impact.
We’re in Jasper, unpacked at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. I fully expect to lose readers this week as you tire of hearing me eat my way through the next 7 days. I’m here for the final two packages of Christmas in November – an event I strongly recommend, and not only because I’m part of it. Basically it’s a food and wine (and martini) fest – non stop eat and drink and nowhere to go home to but your lakeside cabin (shuttled in a golf cart if you’re so inclined) and in between, sessions with chefs (Michael Smith, Anna Olsen, Elizabeth Baird and Emily Richards, Me) and designers like Karl Lohnes and Chris Standring. Everything is decorated like something straight out of a Canadian Tire Christmas ad, which are starting to run regularly now, in case you haven’t noticed. (If you live in Florida, you won’t have.)
The first batch of guests arrive tomorrow, before Buffetpalooza (Three rooms. For real.). Tonight we ordered in – Mike had roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and veg :

lit in the dark by the bedside lamp. Late in the afternoon we pulled over beside a glacier and ate the oniony meatloaf sandwiches my Mom so nicely packed for us, and a bag of strawberries. I like those photos better.
