Meatballs with Brown Rice Pasta
W asked for noodles and meatballs for dinner, and he got it. Brown rice noodles, which of course are made with brown rice rather than white flour, but which have the same mouthfeel as regular white pasta; none of the tweediness of whole wheat pasta. I like it. (When I was a kid, I actually avoided going to a certain family’s house for dinner because they served whole wheat spaghetti, and I, obsessed with the idea of Kraft Dinner, thought it was just too weird.)
But I still had a salty peanut bar for dinner.
This, dear friends, is what my life amounts to these days. The song has crawled into my ear and embedded itself on my brainstem. I cannot rid myself of it. Fortunately, W sounds cute when he sings it, making up words that sound sort of like “catches thieves just like flies”.

Too funny, Morgan’s been teaching The Monster the words to that song too. That and “The People in Your Neighbourhood” from Sesame Street. How can you tell we are a TV generation?

I don’t have kids but I know all the words, too.

We had homemade sauce over brown rice penne on Sunday. Recently discovered my husband is wheat intolerant. BOY does that throw a wrench in what we love to eat. You’re right, same mouth feel as white pasta. We found that it settled much lighter than ww pasta and even white pasta and thus were able to scarf down two huge bowls. MISTAKE! I guess it really does take 20 minutes for your brain to tell your stomach to quit it!

Yum! This looks really yummy! Where do you buy the brown rice noodles? I’ve never even heard of them! I usually get the whole wheat noodles – even though my husband hates them. Honestly, I could care less sometimes. One day he’ll like them.

I love Tinkyada brown rice pasta. I find it holds up better than some others I’ve tried. We get ours at Superstore or any of the natural food stores.

Great to know re brown rice pasta! I agree with whole wheat – I try to serve it, but it’s just not quite right.
And as far as Spiderman – try H.R. Puffenstuff, or from the Flintstones, “Here we come on the run, with a burger on a bun…” for a head-sticking tune!!

I just have to share this with you because it has been years … no decades (oh man I’m getting old) since I’ve thought of it ….
and my favorite part of the opening song was the close up of spiderman swinging across the screen waving to ME (Yes I thought it was to me personally). My brothers would jump in front of the TV at that exact moment and I’d miss the wave and be DEVASTATED, I’d cry and usually not bother to watch the rest of the show! I laugh thinking back to it now but at the time it was very terrible! LOL! Thanks for the memory! Awesome!
I am the youngest and have 2 older brothers, who when I was younger (and sometimes still), loved to torment me. We watched Spiderman EVERYDAY (I was around 5 and they were 7 &

Great. Now I’m going to hum this song for days. Only I’ll hear Moxy Fruvous’ vocals.

My son sang ‘catches sleeves just like flies’. I never corrected him, it was just too cute. But he eventually figured it out on his own. That was a sad day.

I *Heart* Moxy Fruvous! Ok now their version is in my head lol

Heard you on the eyeopener this morning talking about pea-butters so thought I’d check out your blog here to read more. Instead was THRILLED to hear the Spidey song. I too grew up watching this every possible time it came on with my younger brother. We both loved the Spiderman and sang along (mostly using the wrong words)… could I still be using the wrong words?

Yes, I had the post almost written last night but didn’t manage to finish it… I will tonight!

Charmian, that’s what I hear too – “Spidey, the fun licker!” (Whatever that is, am scared to ask.)
I don’t mind WW pasta, but I’m going to have to give rice a shot, just for fun.
