Stained Glass Heart Cookies on a Stick
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone. We made these cookies for W’s kindergarten class, but I don’t think heart cookies should be reserved for Valentine’s Day. They don’t even need to be on a stick.
Just think of the possibilities! All you need is a window in your dough, and some smashed hard candies. Any shape window – any colour of candy. Perfect for parties, birthday or otherwise! If you had little letter or number cutters in honour of the birthday boy/girl – how cute would that be? Or yellow stars! Blue moons! More than one window, which opens up the potential for happy faces!
I must say I’m feeling very Martha today. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
You can use any rolled cookie dough – I used a sugar dough made with some butter, some canola oil. If you want the recipe, or complete stained glass cookie on a stick formula, I posted it over at the Family Kitchen.

Ah shucks, those are the cutest cookies ever! So your the Mom that brings all the great snacks to your kids class parties. I was never one of those, but I was the Mom who sampled everything other kids parents brought. Always there to help…

Stained glass cookies are so fun! We have a set of alphabet cookie cutters, so have made X’s and O’s for Valentines Day, with red O’s filled in with candies. They’re so pretty. I could not find a single hard red candy today when I went to look (small town… grrrrr!) not even a red sucker. We’ll have to stick to our cinnamon heart polar bear cookies instead. They’re yummy too. Happy Valentines Day!!

We used to make stained glass cookies with my Mom as kids…. What a great childhood memory. I’m glad you posted this because I have no idea where the recipe is for the dough we used. I’ll have to try this recipe with my kids.

Those are so neat, I’ve really got to try baking with my daughter one of these days (she’ll be 3 at the end of May). I’m not a big baker so it’s unusal for me to do so…. although I did make your apple & cheese hermits last night and they turned out very well
(Made up for the caramels I destroyed, so sad!)

I have a vivid memory of stained glass cookies from elementary school but I had no memory of how we made them. Thanks for posting this. I can’t wait to try it with my son. He’ll really get a kick out of them.

Oh wow, I love these.
I got a book from my in-laws this Christmas that was for cake pops – like lollipops made of cake. For some reason, these sound much more reasonable (and easy) than cake pops! Can’t wait to try them…

I can see these as stained glass flowers on a stick too… In a little pot on a table for a little girls, spring birthday party. Cute!

These are fantastic! I can’t wait to make these with my son (who is only 5 months now, so I’ve bookmarked it for a few years from now)

Stunning! I have a friend of the family who does very similar cookies for Christmas, and hangs them as pendants around the house and on the tree. I never would have thought to take them on the Valentine route!
