Homemade Falafel

Falafel%2B3 Homemade Falafel

Can’t talk, scheming. I have a bunch of deadlines today, but also an idea simmering, which may or may not pan out. A lot of you have been asking if there will be another Blog Aid book, or if the existing one (which we created in response to the earthquake in Haiti last year) will be available again to raise funds for Japan. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been partially paralyzed by the incredible footage of the devastation there. I know I’m not the only one feeling helpless. I have a different idea.

A falafel recipe seems redundant, but we all gotta eat. This is one of my faves, although I hardly ever make it – I have posted it here before, but ages ago, so thought you might like a refresher.

The recipe is over at the Family Kitchen.

Also! I said I’d help spread the word about a new food event happening this April in Alberta – Eat Alberta: A Celebration of Our Local Food Heroes will be held in downtown Edmonton on April 30th. Through a mix of hands-on and demonstration workshops, tasting sessions, and presentations from some of the leaders of our local food community – farmers, chefs and food advocates – Eat Alberta participants will learn how to use and source local food as well as develop nurturing and ongoing relationships with one another and with those that produce our food. For more info or to register for the conference, visit eatalberta.com.

I wonder about posting the links to family kitchen. I admit that I find it a little frustrating to have to go there to get the recipe. If family kitchen ever changes where those pages are the links will be dead and it’ll be hard to find them.

  2. JulieVR on 14 Mar 2011 at 1:14 pm #

I doubt FK will ever change the location of the pages. Sorry.. it’s only one click! There are a ton of blogs that have the reader click for more in order to get the rest of the post and the recipe. I figure on days when I don’t have time to post a new recipe, a little something is better than nothing…

Can’t wait to hear your different idea re: Japan. We have been brewing about what we could do here (in Edmonton), too!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping to spread the word for our conference. STANDING OVATION!!!
    :)

Oy, Julie, if you need helping hands on Japan aid, I am so in. You were a sight to behold when Haiti went down.

Also, I love falafel, and it had nearly fallen off my radar. Time to remedy.

Molly – I would love that. Right now it’s nothing more than an idea that planted itself in the shower and en route to a doctor’s appt this morning – I have a bunch of stories due today that I’m working madly on finishing – I haven’t had time to actually act on it yet! Oy!

Whatever you do, it will be amazing. :)

Thanks, Julie. I love the idea of a project to assist Japan. I, too, am blown away by the scope of this tragedy!

Thanks for yet another wonderful recipe…I feel so lucky that you post something almost every day!!! It’s incredible that you link us to other places with which you are involved… I am continually amazed at all you do and the inspiration you provide…
I’m thinkin’ some of us might be sounding a wittle bit spoiled? :-)

Keep us posted on what we can do for those in Japan. I just heard that tehre was another explosion in their nuclear plant.

I can’t wait to see what you cook up for those in need this time. I’m sure it’ll be brilliant as always.

Love both the falafel recipe (and don’t mind clicking over to your paying gig one bit) & Eat Alberta. I’ve been messing around with the new PC Greek Yogurt, trying to replicate 2 Greek Gals tzatziki… I’ll be making these as soon as St Pat’s is over. :)

Yes, I miss It’s Just Food, and the New Zealand cooking show. I’ve seen It’s Just Food on another channel, I think on Saturdays. OWN really messed up the shows I used to watch

As soon as I read the details of Eat Alberta I signed up two people. Sausage making – yay! The presenters all look very interesting too, some of their names are familiar from their blogs or from other events I’ve attended around town. Looks good!

I’ve been seeing Its Just Food on channel 13 (Access) if I watch the second (results) show of American Idol there each week ( big if).

I used to go to this little falafel place by my work on an almost daily basis! Yet I have never made them at home..I might need to change that!

  19. Char on 17 Mar 2011 at 6:58 pm #

Just made these – super easy and YUM! Thanks for the recipe.

It would be super easy to open up sales of the blog aid cookbook for starters…I was just sick to miss it and have been watching for over a year to see if it ever was opened again. I am totally in for whatever you decide.

  21. JulieVR on 18 Mar 2011 at 8:51 am #

Jennifer – it seems like that would be easy, but it’s not that simple – for one thing, funds for the book were committed to Haiti relief – and without the support of the companies who were matching funds, and the Canadian government who were at the time matching that, the funds raised won’t be anywhere near as significant. By the way, it has been available for sale again – visit http://www.blurb.com and search Blog Aid.
